Carex testacea is a graceful, clump-forming tussock grass known for its distinctive brick-orange foliage. Growing to about 30-60 cm in height and width, it has a moderate growth rate. Ideal for rock gardens, feature plantings, and environmental plantings, it adds vibrant colour and texture to various garden settings. This hardy New Zealand native sedge thrives in well-drained soils, including sandy or loamy types, and is tolerant of wind and frost. While it prefers sheltered sites, it is less suited to coastal conditions. Carex testacea is versatile and resilient, making it suitable for both ornamental and ecological purposes.
